She was a long time in the making as I tested, tested and

GEOMETRICAL FLIGHT PLAN QUILT
You know when you have a fabric bundle sitting in your stash
and you love it so much you’re waiting for the perfect project to come along to
feature it in? Cause, you know, you don’t want to waste it on the wrong
project, right? This was one of those projects! This Geometrical AGF Bundle-Up
stack is just SO vibrant and bold. I know I love bold colour, but I must admit
to wondering if I was going TOO bold. I then thought to myself “Shannon, go
bold or go home” – ha! So, I went really bold and paired it with some deeply
saturated colours to help everything really pop.
Here's what I love about this one – it shows off the fun of
the pattern design and the versatility you can bring to it just with your
fabric choices. This one is obviously super vibrant and colourful which suits
my mood perfectly!
Oh, and that cute little quilt label? I make all of mine
with the scraps from the quilt project. Here’s a tutorial on how to make your
own too!
MATERIALS FEATURED
To make your own version of the Geometrical Flight Plan
quilt, here’s a full run down of the materials and tools I used:
White Aurifil Thread for piecing
Yellow 40wt Aurifil Thread for top quilting
Orange 40wt Aurifil Thread for back quilting
Ruler – this one makes marking lines a breeze

ROLLAKAN FLIGHT PLAN BABY QUILT
I’ve been lucky to play with Cathy Nordstrom’s fabrics
before and they didn’t disappoint then and they didn’t disappoint this time
either!
The Rollakan Collection is her first with FIGO Fabrics and after
working on my Harvest Falls quilt and mini quilt for features in Love Patchwork
and Quilting Magazine with it, I couldn’t get enough of this sweet retro
collection. So, I decided to see if I could eek out enough from the leftover
fabric to make a baby Flight Plan quilt. I’m so thrilled I tried it out,
because it totally worked!
Even though it’s the same pattern, I love how different the
feel of this one is. The prints are whimsical and soft with lots of femininity
to them. I enhanced that feeling by entirely quilting it by hand. It took me
quite awhile to get done, but just look at those yummy stitches – so worth the
time invested!
This would make for the sweetest baby girl nursery or shower
gift.
MATERIALS FEATURED
Here’s everything you’ll need to make your own:
50wt white Aurifil Thread for piecing
Pearl cotton thread
for quilting (here’s a list of shops to source these pretties)
Ruler – this one makes marking lines a breeze

MEOW FLIGHT PLAN QUILT
Here is the
original version I designed all the way back in 2017.
I had
discovered the Meow collection from Riley Blakes and instantly thought of my
SIL. This was a case of seeing a collection and then designing a pattern.
You can
read more about the original version here but suffice it to say that I loved
making it so much I needed to make some more!
MATERIALS FEATURED
To make the Meow version, here’s what you’ll need:
Meow Dark Pink Yarn
Meow Gray Fish
Meow Pink Dot
Meow White Dot
50wt thread for piecing
Note: Riley Blake has come out with a second line for this
collection called Meow and Forever. You can see all the fun new prints here.

FLIGHT PLAN QUILTS IN THE WILD
My pattern testers always come up with the most amazing
colourways for their test versions. Here’s just a few of the ones my testers
sent me:
THE WILD WILD WEST
Melva’s incorporated some truly fantastic prints and colours in her baby Flight Plan
quilt and I just love how she captured this shot with those streams in the sky!
SWEET & NOSTALGIC

Ange has such a eye for the most adorable prints. I honestly don’t know how she does it to find just the cutest fabrics for little girls! How cute are those little deer and chicketies!
TROPICAL GETAWAY
That’s totally what Jocelyn’s fun Kaffe Fasset prints have me yearning for – a day on the beach sipping Pina
coladas!
OCEAN WAVES

Colette’s gorgeous blue, green and aqua palette paired against that sandy neutral background reminds me of the different colours you see in ocean waves. I think I need a day at the beach!
SALT WATER TAFFY
Emily’s got great quilty style and I think it’s hilarious
that we’ve both made baby Flight Plan quilts featuring different FIGO Fabrics
collections. Emily has featured the Salt Wind collection by Emily Taylor and the colours and theme behind the designs have me thinking about salt water
taffy. Too fun!
A special shout out to my very trusty and helpful testers. My goal is always to design a pattern that is easy to follow and helps you achieve quilty success and I couldn’t do that without them.

MEANING BEHIND FLIGHT PLAN QUILT PATTERN
This pattern holds a special place in my heart as I
initially designed it for my SIL for a milestone birthday she was celebrating. The
fact that so many of you loved it as well and wanted to make your very own was
the cherry on top!
This pattern is all about following your own instincts and following
the beat of your own drum. Too often I hear the ones I love feeling stuck
because they want to pursue something that is dear to their soul but worry
about letting down a friend, a parent or a partner. And when everyone seems to
be going in one direction and all you feel is being pulled in the opposite
direction – towards an idea, a passion, a curiosity – there’s nothing wrong in
pursuing it. Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going
to get. So, when something is calling you to pursue it, I take that as a sign
it should be explored.
Going against the path that others expect for us (or, what
we think they expect of us) can be really challenging. I remember when I had
finished Cegep (yup, that was eons ago!) and I decided I wanted to pursue cooking
school, my mum was horrified. Horrified that I wasn’t going to university.
Horrified that I was limiting myself. What she didn’t get was that this is what
kept calling to me. And this is where I’m so thrilled my mum raised me to be
independent (and the stubborn Fraser trait didn’t hurt either 😉),
I stuck to my guns and went to cooking school. In the end, it’s how I supported
myself through university and I picked up a lifelong skill that serves to me
this day.
Moral of the story, I could have listened to my mum and
followed what she wanted, but I bet you I wouldn’t be where I am today. We all
have a path and isn’t part of the fun figuring it all out?
So, this pattern is the encouragement to pursue that idea,
passion or curiosity to see where it will lead. You never know where you may
just end up!
Follow the Flight Plan quilt pattern layout or play around and find a layout
that suits your individual ‘flight plan’ 😉
Keep an eye out on Instagram for some fun surprises coming
your way!
Happy quilting!
