Finally!! the second of the secret sewing projects I worked on
earlier this year for Camelot Fabrics – the Kaleidoscope Peaks & Valleys
Table Runner! What a stunner!
I was working under a really tight deadline to get the Kaleidoscope Festival Quilt and this table runner completed, so I was super appreciative
that I had tackled the Peaks & Valleys Table Runner before. I knew which
steps were time consuming (I’m looking at you HST block squaring!) and remembered
that the direction of my seams was really important for a seamless fit. This
made for quicker assembly, which I was grateful for.
You would think re-doing the same quilt pattern twice would be a
little hum drum, but it was the completed opposite. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing
the table runner take shape featuring the beautiful geometric quilt fabric. I
just love the colours in the Kaleidoscope line and paired with the white just
enhanced their beauty.
Besides, I was playing with half square triangles (HSTs) and I just adore them. I
mean, how can you resist these cute stacks?!
I'm all about assembly work when I work on quilt projects. Once I have all of my cutting done, I then move onto chain piecing.
As soon as you have all your HSTs done and squared up, I recommend laying the blocks out on a design wall (I've got a DIY solution here). With so many HSTs, it is really easy to get turned around and sewn in the wrong layout. A design wall goes a long way in keeping everything organized.
My next recommendation is to pin at each interlocking seam. This may seem excessive, but it ensured my points were as lined up as possible.
You'll find you get into a groove and the quilt top comes together quite quickly. And as soon as you see those chevrons coming together you may just find yourself doing a happy dance :)

I initially thought of doing horizontal quilting lines, but changed my mind at the last minute and went for 1/2" and 1" interspersed straight line quilting. I love the effect it gives in contrast to the chevron pattern.
The quilt pattern, designed by Melissa Corry from Happy Quilting, is available here. Or get the quilt kit which is still available at Craft of Quilting and, bonus, it’s on sale! Hurry and snag this kit while you can, it’s a fun one!
Happy quilting!

Looks fabulous and I am in awe at how perfectly matched your seams are.
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet of you to say, Sharon! I spent lots of time laying out my blocks and re-ironing my seams to make sure they all fit just right ;)
DeleteThis looks great Shannon! Your piecing is so precise - wow! And the quilting is just perfect for the design of the quilt. I absolutely love it! :-)
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks Izzy! I really loved this project, so much so, it was tough to part with!
