Sewcial Bee Sampler - Row 4 Roundup

Sewcial Bee Sampler Row 4 Roundup | Square Peg Quilt Block | Shannon Fraser Designs | Modern Quilting | Sew-A-Long

And just like that, row 4 of my Sewcial Bee Sampler quilt is done!

With all the other projects I have on the go, it’s so fun to sneak these pretty little blocks in to my hectic days. I’m still in love with the colourway I’ve chosen. Big surprise, right?! I just love coral and pinky tones – they’re my fav. And I’m thrilled with the addition of the deep burgundy. It helps everything pop and gives really good contrast. To think I sat on this combo for so long before giving it a go. So thankful I finally did!!

This quilt along is rapidly nearing its end. I’ve got one more row to go after this and the quilt top is done. Crazy how time flies when you’re having a good time 😉

Guys, I’m dealing with very little fabric options at this point. Getting creative is not an option but a necessity. I feel like my fabric pairing skills are being tested!! Not a bad thing, I suppose.

Here’s out it all played out:

King's Crown Quilt Block | Shannon Fraser Designs | Modern Quilting | Sew-A-Long | Sewcial Bee Sampler | Art Gallery Fabrics | Camelot Fabrics

Block 16 called King’s Crown was a fun and simple one to piece. I was just a little disappointed with my fabric selection. I had originally planned to use some of the peachy/coral Sandbox Sunlit print from the Art Gallery Fabric Playground collection, but sadly didn’t have enough Since I already had the two other floral prints, I needed to balance that out with a more graphic/ linear print. Thankfully, the Diamond Grid in Pink Chai from Camelot Fabrics’ Kaleidoscope collection was a great alternative.

Spools Quilt Block | Shannon Fraser Designs | Modern Quilting | Sew-A-Long | Sewcial Bee Sampler with Sharon Holland Designs & Maureen Cracknell

The Spools block was another big block of the series. And it was a half square triangles (HSTs) fiesta!! In retrospect, I probably should have used a colour with a little more contrast for the corners and secondary pattern, but when you’re up close there is a subtle difference. No borders needed for this one and so I decided to introduce my burgundy border fabric into the mix. I did that before with the Flying Geese block in Row 3 using the Essex Linen in Flax. I figured I needed to balance things out. Plus, I really wanted to use a solid burgundy and my Kona stash has dwindled considerably. I’m not sure if it’s the block design or the fact that I’m using that lovely floral, but I just adore this block. It’s my fav of this row and one of my top fav of the series (still trying to decide which is my ultimate fav!!).

Square Peg offers lots of opportunities to really show case some prints in your stash. I decided to go with solids bordered by the Diamond Grid in Pink Chai print. It has a nice bold outcome which I think will play well with the other blocks in the quilt.

Circle of Friends Quilt Block | Shannon Fraser Designs | Modern Quilting | Sew-A-Long | Sewcial Bee Sampler with Sharon Holland Designs & Maureen Cracknell

Circle of Friends I adore this block. But squaring up HSTs is not my fav and there were lots and lots of HSTs in this teeny little block!! 32 to be exact. So, I broke the trimming into two sessions. This block summarizes what I love about quilting. The block design is beautiful and understated and I wanted most of my fabrics to enhance these elements.

You really can’t go wrong with the Playground fabric collection designed by Amy Sinibaldi for Art Gallery Fabrics. And I just adore pairing them with linen. It’s a texture match in heaven 😉 Here I used I Spy Kindness and He Loves Me Plum along with my fav Essex linen in Flax. This one is in the runner for my all-time fave!

Irish Chain Variation Quilt Block | Shannon Fraser Designs | Modern Quilting | Sew-A-Long | Sewcial Bee Sampler with Sharon Holland Designs & Maureen Cracknell

The last block of this row is called Irish Chain Variation. This one is all about squares! Super straight forward block to piece and, although it’s a simple design, you could have lots of fun playing with fabric combinations.
