Spreading quilty joy one stitch at a time!

Libs Elliott Weight of Love Quilt Workshop

March 23, 2016 by Shannon 4 Comments

It finally happened! The quilting workshop I have been
eagerly awaiting was this past Saturday and boy was the wait well worth it!
I was such an eager beaver; I actually showed up almost a
full hour ahead of schedule.  I like to be
early, but not that early ๐Ÿ˜‰ Most likely due to my excitement, I slept really
poorly the night before. So I wanted to be sure I had time to pick-up a coffee
and get there with plenty of time to set-up and chat with the other
participants before getting down to business.
The wait did not disappoint. I had a blast hanging with my
Montreal Modern Quilt Guild members and learning โ€œYโ€ seams from Libs Elliott. Although
I will say, I have yet to have that โ€œa-haโ€ moment when it comes to those โ€œYโ€
seams. We havenโ€™t found our love for one another, but I’m sure with a little
more practice we will get there ๐Ÿ˜‰ My table mate was zooming along while I
struggled to get the first two rows joined.
I happily picked-up my second Juki
machine earlier this week (more on that soon) and I am already loving the precision I can achieve with her! So it will be interesting to tackle those โ€œYโ€ seams.
As far as instructors go, Libs was awesome! Very calm, funny
and patient. All qualities I appreciate in a teacher. Especially when I’m
struggling with a technique ๐Ÿ˜‰
This workshop just reinforced what I love about quilting;
there were 26 participants working on the same pattern and yet we all had
different interpretations and colorways. I just love that!
Iโ€™m quite thrilled with how my colorway is coming together
and everyone has dubbed it the creamsicle quilt! Which is quite apropos given
that one of the fabrics is actually called creamsicle J
I’ve still got quite a bit of work to tackle before I can
call this project complete.  But Iโ€™ll be
sure to check-in and post the final quilt once she comes together!  If you need some tips on how to use the Hex-N-More ruler, be sure to check out my tutorial on this nifty little tool.

This is the first quilting workshop I’ve attended and I
would love to attend more.  Please share your  recommendations in the comments below so we can all improve on our craft!

A big thank you to Stephanie and the Montreal Modern Quilt Guild for organizing such an epic event!!  If you have the chance to take one of Libs‘ workshops, I highly suggest you snag that opportunity!

Je suis tellement jalouse de vous deux ! Mais avant de m'aventurer plus, il faudrait que je termine mon projet d'atelier fait avec Cinzia. Tissu en route, mais il faut faire les impรดts avant.
